[LDPE] 1.8.84 Released (identify subfile content / PartReview / UI contrast/ ESC bug)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2024-07-28, 19:28 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (2)

Hey,

thanks to your feedback, I finished another LDPE version.
You can now visually identify which surfaces or lines belong to the model being edited or to a primitive/subpart (see it here).

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(8 new features and 3 bug fixes)

With this release you will be able to...

  • ...visually identify which surfaces or lines belong to the model being edited or to a primitive/subpart (with the green "S" button in the upper left corner of the 3D editor).
  • ...press a button to run Edger2 verbose with the current settings (shortcut: Shift+E).
  • ...set the number of open views for part review (1-4).
  • ...see the location where PartReview will store its files and "Save All" files for review.
  • ...benefit from a better button contrast on the dark UI themes.
  • ...benefit from a better contrast for the coplanarity heatmap.
  • ...benefit from an improved Edger2 performance.
  • ...show hi-quality edge lines in the OpenGL 3.3 renderer (TYPE 2 and 5).

The following critical issues are fixed:

  1. Uninlining left an additional blank line after un-inlining in the target file.
  2. The ESC key reset the Manipulator when it was set by a double click on a surface before.
  3. Added a a missing border on text boxes which had a UI theme applied.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.84.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.84-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.84.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 150 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10,11, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 500 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.

Can snap be made or changed yourself ?
Posted by: dkd - 2024-07-27, 14:05 - Forum: Help - Replies (5)

Hello

Have a question regarding parts that do not have any or wrong snap. Is it possible to make it yourself, perhaps with LDpartseditor?

Can give an example:
Part 54200 has no snap, but 54200pc1 does, there are several parts I would like to be able to change, but don't want to start anything until I hear your opinion

Have familiarized myself with LDparteditor.

Thank you for your time Smile

Frame 3x13 and curved panel 3x9
Posted by: Paweł Turalski - 2024-07-27, 13:02 - Forum: Part Requests - Replies (2)

Hi guys! In August we get some new technic parts, I already have two of them in my 42173 Koenigsegg and I would ask to make them in digital form.

The first one is the frame 3x13 - it is basically the shorter version of the previous longer, so I think it should be easy to do:

Next one is the cuved panel 3x9 - slightly different than 3x11 but here are the key differences:

The outside parts is smooth, there is no "grille" anymore, on the opposite there are 4 small dots:

When you compare them both in the middle, you can see the both parts have the same height:

And it fits to the mudguard 2459:

The part numbers are visible, I hope there are possible to read:

But if not,
Frame: 4526
Panel: 5427

Thanks in advance!

good image references for modelling constraction pieces
Posted by: Jeff Jones - 2024-07-26, 20:55 - Forum: Parts Authoring - No Replies

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1...Ggmk4xPieA
originally from the Bionicle 3d modeling server
It is a folder containing references to constraction pieces ranging from Bionicle to Knights Kingdom 2 pieces
unfortunately, it is lacking in some parts like the Star Wars buildable figures and Slizers/Throwbots pieces are missing. along with Chima and others
not my folder tho.

Question How to edit group w/o ungrouping?
Posted by: G.D. Grant - 2024-07-20, 11:52 - Forum: Help - Replies (5)

I've created several groups with custom centres in my LDCad model to make it easier to rotate these about hinge parts. However, I now want to move/rotate parts within some of these groups without having to ungroup/regroup every time. Is this possible? I tried activating nested editing, but that only works for sub-models, not groups.

Thanks.

[LDPE] 1.8.83 Released (dark theme / swap XYZ / rare bugfix)
Posted by: Nils Schmidt - 2024-07-19, 18:47 - Forum: Parts Author Tools - Replies (7)

Hey,

this new version adds colour themes to the editor (default/dark/light and the famous dracula theme).
And you can now swap the XYZ coordinates of a selection (globally and locally) via "Actions..."->"Swap X/Y/Z (for Selection)".
Finally, it fixes an old rare bug, which kept the text-editor as read-only until the file was saved (Thanks to Willy and Magnus for reporting the bug!).

This is the 100th release version from Github by the way...

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(3 new features and 1 bug fix)

With this release you will be able to...

  • ...change colour themes via "Tools..."->"Options..."->"Customise Colours:"->"Theme" (e.g. to dark mode/dracula theme) to make the software easier on the eyes.
  • ...use "Swap X/Y/Z (for Selection)".
  • ...use "Set X/Y/Z (for Selection)" to set the manipulator position, too.

The following critical issue is fixed after more than 8 years:

  1. Sometimes the text-editor remained read-only until the file was saved (e.g. after Edger2 runs).

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.83.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh

Hello,

how long do you usually have to wait until you are admitted to the Parts Tracker? I wrote an email for the copyright but didn't receive a confirmation. I've already checked spam. Do I have to show the part here first so that I can make a part?

Kind regards,

Lisa
