correct part numbers of Duplo car shortcuts

correct part numbers of Duplo car shortcuts

Hi friends,

I would like to suggest the following renumbering correction of these official files:

parts/14639p01.dat -> parts/14639c01.dat
parts/14639p02.dat -> parts/14639c02.dat
parts/14639p03.dat -> parts/14639c03.dat
parts/14639p04.dat -> parts/14639c04.dat
parts/14639p05.dat -> parts/14639c05.dat
parts/14639p06.dat -> parts/14639c06.dat
parts/14639p07.dat -> parts/14639c07.dat

plus this unofficial one:

parts/14639p08.dat -> parts/14639c08.dat

The reason is:
all these ....p...dat files are NOT patterned (that's what the "p" stands for).

Instead, they all are different assemblies (shortcuts) of
- a duplo car base
- with 4 wheels

The shortcuts differ in the color of the wheels.

I think by releasing the files with the "p" instead of the "c" we wrongly applied our part numbering rules.

Hi Steffen,
I don't agree. These are different colors of the same "part", 14639. This one is a shortcut (assembly) of 1 base + 4 wheels. All 14639pxx have the same composition, but different color ("pattern")

do we need a version with uncoloured wheels too?
and it looks like (on BL) that there is also a version with closed clip:

(maybe this is just 74656p01.dat who needs another base)

We regularly have similar discussion on the forum... See https://forums.ldraw.org/thread-27416.html

For me the pXX is acceptable for such use case

ok. understood. thanks for the explanation, makes sense to me.
I will retract my hold for the new assembly.

I think no. For comparison:
For example, for the 12V train track, we have a version where the rails are color16
and the sleepers white or grey.
Having a full color 16 version does not really help, because it looks ugly and anyway needs to be recolored.
That's something you can also do with a version which has colored wheels.

If we have a p/cXX part then we also need a corresponding non p/cXX part.

I am OK to create one if needed, but imho while a blank version is necessary when patterning modifies the geometry of part, I don't really see the usefulness here.

What about this part?

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/cat...312c04#T=C

only exists in brown (with brown wheels), should the digital part then also have brown or uncoloured wheels?
which wheel version is this? smooth or with fake bolts?

and why is the version with closed hitch missing?
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/cat...883c01#T=C
(seems very similar, maybe most of the base could be reused)

It's not really a question of usefulness but of consistency, something we're bad at and I'd like to fix. It also screws up pages like this:
https://library.ldraw.org/search/suffix?s=14639 since there is no "base part"

Now done!
