Minifig Decal .PNG Repository

Minifig Decal .PNG Repository
#1
Hi all,

I am new to LDraw and have just found the .dat repository for parts. I am looking for a .PNG repository with all the decals on printed parts, specifically minifig parts (like faces, torsos, and arms; take hoodie part 76382p99.dat for example). All these minifig parts have beautiful prints and I would like to be able to print out these decals in a flat pattern, but I don't know where they are stored. I see that there are a very small amount of flat patterns for head prints in the textures/ folder of the official parts catalog (attached below), is there a larger repository with the rest of these prints?

I also have Studio 2.0 and access to Fusion 360, so I can unwrap any decals from the actual parts. Alternatively, can I export the parts with decals as .3DS files from LDraw and use fusion to extract the decals?

Thanks,
Marcus

Most of LDraw's part decals do not exist as typical image files (like .png).

Instead they are "baked" into the part, using the LDraw language system itself.
It's probably possible to convert them .svg or similar, but unless you find a converter, this is going to be quite some work.

A few parts use texmaps (mostly when the traditional method is too problematic). Those are called "Texture Maps (TexMap)". Here's a list of all Texmap files currently in the library:
https://library.ldraw.org/parts/list?tableFilters

EDIT:
Guess the link won't save filters, so you need to set "!LDRAW_ORG Type" to any of the 3 available Texmap categories.

Hey Marcus,

From what I know, there isn’t really a full PNG library for minifig decals. Most of the prints in LDraw are actually built into the part files, not stored as separate images, so that’s why you’re not finding them.

If you really need them as images, your idea of unwrapping in Fusion 360 could work, but it might take a bit of effort to get clean results.

The TexMap ones mentioned above are the only cases where actual image files exist, but that’s just a small portion.

So yeah, sadly no easy download pack for all decals, but your approach is probably the best workaround 👍
