[LDPE] 1.8.84 Released (identify subfile content / PartReview / UI contrast/ ESC bug)
#1
Hey,

thanks to your feedback, I finished another LDPE version.
You can now visually identify which surfaces or lines belong to the model being edited or to a primitive/subpart (see it here).

As always, you can download LDPE from this page:

http://nilsschmidt1337.github.io/ldparteditor/

Changelog:

(8 new features and 3 bug fixes)

With this release you will be able to...
  • ...visually identify which surfaces or lines belong to the model being edited or to a primitive/subpart (with the green "S" button in the upper left corner of the 3D editor).
  • ...press a button to run Edger2 verbose with the current settings (shortcut: Shift+E).
  • ...set the number of open views for part review (1-4).
  • ...see the location where PartReview will store its files and "Save All" files for review.
  • ...benefit from a better button contrast on the dark UI themes.
  • ...benefit from a better contrast for the coplanarity heatmap.
  • ...benefit from an improved Edger2 performance.
  • ...show hi-quality edge lines in the OpenGL 3.3 renderer (TYPE 2 and 5).

The following critical issues are fixed:

  1. Uninlining left an additional blank line after un-inlining in the target file.
  2. The ESC key reset the Manipulator when it was set by a double click on a surface before.
  3. Added a a missing border on text boxes which had a UI theme applied.

The program was tested intensively with "real world" files.
However, something can go wrong in about 140.000 lines of code.

Installation on Windows:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_win32_x64.zip
  2. Run LDPartEditor-1.8.84.msi
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the start menu
Installation on Linux:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_linux_x64.zip
  2. Install ldparteditor_1.8.84-1_amd64.deb
  3. Start LDPartEditor from the menu or via launcher
Installation on Mac OS X:

  1. Download and extract LDPartEditor_mac_x64.zip
  2. Mount LDPartEditor-1.8.84.dmg
  3. Drag LDPartEditor.app to the Applications folder
  4. Copy ldparteditor.sh to your home folder
        4a. Open a Terminal.app and run ./ldparteditor.sh
        4b. Or open a Terminal.app and run /Applications/LDPartEditor.app/Contents/MacOS/LDPartEditor

I listen carefully to your requests and possible complaints. Please leave me a message, with your thoughts and wishes to further improve the software.

LDPE is a 3D CAD application: The overall system requirements are higher. While I recommend to use a powerful 64-bit multicore system, it could be possible, to run LDPE on older machines as well.

System Requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:
  • OpenGL 2.1 compatible Graphics Card
  • Operating System (64-bit): Windows [7 or newer], Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon II (>2.0Ghz)
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video-Memory: 1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 150 MB
Recommended Requirements:
  • Operating System (64bit): Windows 7,8,10,11, Linux [e.g. Ubuntu Linux >=14.4], Mac OS X [>=10.6]
  • OpenGL 3.3 compatible Graphics Card
  • CPU: Multicore-Processor with 4 cores (or more)
  • RAM: >4 GB
  • Video-Memory: >1 GB
  • Free Disk Space: 500 MB
  • For a faster start, LDPartEditor and the LDraw™ library should be installed on an SSD.

1.8.85 Upcoming Features
#2
LDPE 1.8.85 is in the making and will include the following 4 new features:
  • primitive substitution (similar to LDView)
  • inverted icons for a better contrast with dark buttons
  • 3D grid will show 3D model intersections and the size of the 3D grid is larger at some zoom levels
  • possibility to create a coplanar quad within the "Coplanarity Heatmap" mode regardless of your current setting for invalid surfaces

Primitive substitution is a complex task to implement. You can follow the progress here:
https://github.com/nilsschmidt1337/ldpar...ssues/1039
I will need a few weeks to finish this. One evening is not enough time for this feature.

All other new features and fixes are currently planned for a release past version 1.8.85.
