LDraw.org 2023-07 Parts Update Now Available
#1
The 2023-07 LDraw Parts Update has been released. This update adds 125 new files to the core library, including 76 new parts and 15 new primitives..

Thanks are due to all the part authors who created or corrected parts for this release. The small, but dedicated, band of reviewers also play an important role in keeping files moving through the Parts Tracker and deserve just as much credit. This update wouldn't have been possible without their dedication and attention to detail.

You can preview the new parts in 2023-07 here, and download the zip-file update or Windows install package here.

Thank you to all the beta testers and parts authors who continue feedback for the new PT software. This project would not be what it is without your help.

Thanks a lot for this update! The CC-BY-4.0 coverage keeps increasing. When 2302 was released, only 18% of the parts remained after removing all material that was not CC-BY-4.0. With this update, that number is up to 48%. With 2302, 98 of the top 100 parts (according to rebrickable.com popularity) were not covered by CC-BY-4.0. Now this number is down to 32. As last year (happy new years!) has seen a lot of releases, I plotted the development in a graph:

  • "top direct" is how many of the top 100 parts are directly not covered by CC-BY-4.0 (less is better, zero ideal)
  • "remaining" is how much of the parts library is remaining after removing all material that is not CC-BY-4.0 (more is better, 100 ideal)
  • "top missing" is how many of the top 100 parts are directly or indirectly not covered by CC-BY-4.0 (less is better, zero ideal)

Maybe most interesting for you is, which primitives are most often responsible for popular parts not being covered. Here is the top-10 together with the number of parts they block.
  •   p/box2-7.dat      1768
  •   p/48/1-4edge.dat  1357
  •   p/48/1-4cyli.dat  1138
  •   p/box4-4a.dat    1053
  •   p/3-16ndis.dat    780
  •   p/box3u5p.dat    742
  •   p/7-16cyli.dat    654
  •   p/box5-4a.dat    609
  •   p/4-4ring9.dat    558
  •   p/box4-2p.dat    533

Amongst this are some very trivial parts. p/box2-7.dat, for example. Focussing on these could very quickly improve the statistics above.

Thank you! Heart

A while ago I created a list of CC BY 2.0 primitives. We've been slowing working through the list.
