Logos and Sticker Backing boxes

Logos and Sticker Backing boxes
#1
Here's the final guidance regarding logos and sticker backing boxes:
  • Logos and sticker boxes will be located in the p/ directory.
  • Logo naming expectations are outlined below
  • Sticker box naming will follow a standard to be developed prior to the first release of such a part
  • Since documentation will be moving to the library site and reformatted, the documentation is this sticky thread

Logo Guidance:
The file name shall follow the following format:
logo-<brand/theme>-<short description>.dat

where:
<brand/theme> is the brand or theme of the logo. For example: lego, ford, chevrolet, maersk, etc. or space, town, castle, etc...
<short description> is a very brief description, preferably one or two words, with dashes for spaces. For example: text, text-outline, etc.

Additionally, a logo should only become a primitive if it has reuse value. A one-off part with a logo should just have the logo inlined.

How about numbering? Should we use 01, 02, and so on, or a single digit 1, 2, 3 ...?

Most of the current unofficial prims use two digits, but we have some that doesn't.

I generally like the new approach. A few things I noticed though (not sure if taken care of):

*There are some logos that are split in their different colours. Sometimes this is required due to NOCLIP, sometimes for recolors
*Several stickers/prints have a sub-file which is re-used a lot (like the 1993 Police logo(s)) but still located in the s\ folder and having a very impractical name like "s/3010p16a.dat" will these be changed? Regarding the current PT review problem this might cause issues. Are there any strategies to avoid flooding the parts tracker due to this change? Like only doing so "on demand"?
*A lot of logos are shared between stickers and regular prints. Will these be treated the same?
*Is there a clear definition/idea of what a "reusable logo" is?
  • Some logos are identical in shape, but not in color (same goes for the clipping problem)
  • Are 2 occurencies enough to count as "reusable"?
  • Some logos are part of a larger logo (some fire fighter signs for example)
  • Some logos appear with minor variants

Whilst sticker rules are being overhauled:

Current sticker rules in general are a bit loose. Is that going to stay?

There has been a lot of confusion/discussion on the PT recently:
  • Is BFC NOCLIP still optional if a transparent sticker is only applied to opaque parts?
  • Colour for sticker shortcuts (when to use 10048 for example)
  • Sticker dimensions (rules are more loose than for "regular parts")
  • Rounded corners (if boxes get standardized, this could be covered here as well maybe?)
