Hi Ben,
many questions and I can only answer to a very few
Personally I am coding in Visualbasic NET. So it is by far not cross platform by default. I have build my own library (xmpd.dll) where I have many function already build in, so writing a tool that handles dat files are very quick. For some tasks, depending on the specific task, i need sometimes to write extra code for speed purpose as at the very beginning i did only know the basics of .NET language. So I often used not the best object if speed is required. To rewrite the complete dll I do not have the mood and i do not see the necessarity.
As far as I know there is no code currently available that help us in the case of t-junction.
