1) The Other Thread:
Well it can stay here, I guess. People will likely find it anyways. For some reason the 1996 stuff is all over the place; maybe I'll post some links in the main thread one day, for sake of completeness.
2) "Off Rails":
Roland already made some good suggestions. I think it can be placed with connectivity in LDD, but it's still far from perfect.
You can also look for examples at the OMR, maybe something can be recycled.
However, even there are some that are, well... not perfect
