A good description of how it's done.
But I think you could save yourself some time if you use Edger2 as a help in finding unmatched vertices.
Use default settings, and choose Include Unmatched Edges and Scope: File + Subfiles.
Edger2 will add a red edgeline if there is an issue somewhere. Zoom in and investigate why it is added. There should be none.
And if it adds a condline on the flat pattern, there is a vertex not Y=0.
