Saving the optional lines in the part with the pattern seems to be more common, but in my opinion it is more cumbersome, as it has to be done every time and is therefore more prone to errors.
My suggestion, on the other hand, to save the optional lines in the subfile, which is used every time, saves space and is less prone to errors. If an error does occur, it only needs to be changed in one place.
According to your statement, there is no argument against my suggestion.
