My understanding is that it's going to coincide with the grand re-opening of the cathedral, so that at least makes sense. (That the Architecture sets tend to be tied to some kind of cross-promotion goes right back to the theme's founding, even if it was originally more for purely architectural subjects than tourist attractions. But it's true, I would like to see more Robie Houses and Imperial Hotels—I wouldn't even mind a large-scale re-issue of the Space Needle.)
It's also my sense that, to the extent that there is a stated LEGO policy on religious subjects, the emphasis that's been placed on it has come far more from the fandom than from the company itself. I'm not even sure whether it's still written among their many current policies—it's certainly not among the top Google hits, anyway. But even if it is, it's probably more of a guideline for profitability than an ethical stance, in the company's view at least.
It's a bit similar to the never-ending debate over whether the word "LEGO" is singular or plural, when in fact the point everyone misses is that it's an adjective and not a noun.
But yes, I know, this is hardly the forum for matters such as these.
