Ok, so I've made a video to demonstrate the difference between the (imo expected) behaviour on a single step page and the 'wrong' bahaviour on a multi-step page.
If you watch this together with my post above, it might get a little more understandable.

Here's the video. Don't mind the weird text on the right and the resolution. I just made a quick recording and haven't really looked into the settings of the recorder
