This is a very difficult issue.
I do not want to lose the capability to put logos on studs correctly oriented.
I would like to support connection seeking software.
I would like to see the holes in the studs.
And I have no real answer solving this

Personally, if I would today encounter this problem, I would fall back to using a shared subpart file PARTS\S
until somebody comes up with a long-term solution...
