Figure categories

Figure categories

Now that Minfig categories are done and implemented let's discuss Figure.

First: Do Minidolls need their own category?

Second: I think Figure should be similar to Minifig

Figure Head => Heads (of all types)
Figure Upper => Torso assemblies (of all types)
Figure Lower => Hip and leg assemblies (of all types including one piece molds like the mermaid tail)
Figure Leg => Legs (anything that connects to a hip piece)
Figure Hips => Hips (of all types, one piece molds that don't have, for example, movable legs should be in Lower)
Figure Arm => Arms (including arms with integral hands)
Figure Torso => Torsos  (of all types)
Figure Hand => Hands (of all types)
Figure Body => Figure, minus the head, that come as one complete unit
Figure Assembly => Figures that come completely assembled (including head) in the box or complete Figure shortcuts

Not sure all of those exist, but I would agree.

I think we have enough Mini Doll parts (and are likely seeing even more) that a separate category feels useful. I would exclude the Friends exclusive Hair/Hats though (if that is in question).

Some of those "Figures" have a lot of components (e.g. Technic) - do those components fall under those categories or are those considered "Hidden" ("~ ...")? Same would apply to other more complex figures such as Fabuland or Belville (not existing yet, but might be in the future).

What counts as Figure? What is an Animal or Robot/Droid (Robot category not needed at all?)?

Possible candidates:
-Skeletons/Ninjago Skulkin
-Technic
-Fabuland
-Duplo (old 1983-2003 version/new post-2004 version)
-Belville/Scala/Primo/Quatro, not yet in LDraw
-Basic "Fingerpuppets" (1981-1992), not yet in LDraw
-Homemaker/Maxifig
-Star Wars aliens with unique molds like Sebulba or Aldar Beedo
-Micro Figures/Trophies, Games/Heroica Figures
-Power Miners Rock Monsters?
-Mars Aliens?
-Nexoknights monsters, Elves goblins, Angry Birds, Trolls World Tour, Minions...
-Bigfigs (Hulk etc.), partially brick-built characters (Groot)?
-TMNT creatures (Dogpound, Fishface...)/Nexoknights Axl torso?
-Mermaid/Squid legs? Custom heads?

Robots:
-Astro Mech
-Battle Droid
-Exo-Force drones
-Life on Mars Aliens?
-Bionicle/HeroFactory minifigs

Animals:
-Rock Raiders Rock Monster?
-Giant Troll? HP/LotR Trolls?

There is significant overlap in Minidoll/Minifig parts outside of the actual body parts. I think the default should be Minifig for accessories and Head/Neck/Footwear.

I'd leave this to reviewers. Not Minifig/Minidoll (if we make that category) but Humanoidish -> Figure.

Hi,
Just for info, there’s a discussion about minifigure/mini doll hair on the BrickLink catalogue forum.
The consensus is to revise the categorizing.
After virtual tests, my opinion is that there are very few (or none at all) hair/wigs that only go on Mini Dolls.

Yes, basically what I meant if that was unclear. There's no reason to separate those.
