Very eager to see the smart brick components available - I want to include them in my Parts Guide.

As I wanted to keep the mesh-thread clean, i.e. meshed only posts, relvant discussions should be here!
Thanks!

No worries, thanks Gerald.  There's a ton of interesting new parts on that thread!

Are all of these meshes extracted from the LEGO Builder app?  If so, how is that app designed - I assume that the parts and instructions for a particular set are downloaded on demand when you click "Build with 3D instructions", since the loading screen took about 30 seconds in my testing.  I also see that the core app is just 123mb, which is not small, but also not large enough to include every LEGO part.

How does this work - Are you able to download the meshes from LEGO servers directly, or do you need to use the app on an iOS or Android device to download and extract the files?  (I searched for a thread explaining this but couldn't find any detailed info.)

Correct, the app downloads the parts on demand, the longer you have it installed the more data it amasses.

There is a part missing so far, the formed and unformed version of the Ford model T roof canvas. I had to zip them as they are pretty big.

New part 7798 only has curved bottom edges different to existing part 6881a.dat. I've made a version of it using box prims where possible.

I've not subparted it or uploaded it for the tracker since I dunno if its worth uploading for such minor differences.

I was already wondering what is new to this part. At first I agreed with Philo, that this is a very minor subtle change to the bottom of a part.

But that is not the real difference! The Rebrickable description indicates the difference, the surface!

It looks like this has a smooth surface like the other tiles (2x2, 4x4) and the graining is gone. Unfortunately the LEGO product renders don's show this difference as the old tile is also rendered without the graining...

Therefore, although the smooth/rough surface is not shown in LDraw, I would favor this part to be on the tracer and amend the description of the old 6x6 Tile indicating it's surface.

May be we wait  for (physical) confirmation before we add it either as alias or own part.

There is also another cape missing 117204 and the formed version which is used in the 76331 batman vs superman batmobile and is new since its only in that set so far.

When I search for the new ferrari F1 car wheel+tire combo I get 'rendering failed'

It's "114948 WHEEL, DIA. 50X27, NO. 1"

Where do you get this "rendering failed"? Using the link to the ZIP?

The tyre 5810 is missing on the mesh summary page.
I made it together with rim 7834. Both are on the tracker.

I get in in the status bar in LDCAD for the parts bin and editing area
and of course it just shows a crosshair.

Yes I downloaded the zip and put the right subparts in \ldrawunf\parts\s\ and the part in \ldrawunf\parts\

EDIT: I put all 3 parts in a new folder on the desktop then loaded 114948.dat and it showed fine, but the subfiles were at the same level as 114948.dat

However since I need to color the subparts separately and independently I will just keep them at the same level in \unoff\parts\ and then LDCAD will also see them in the parts search bin.

These "unofficial" unofficial zip-files might not have a correct ldraw file structure, or content.
In this case the s01 and s02 need to be in the same folder as the part, or you need to edit the content of the part-file.

Add a s\ in front of the subfiles:
1 16 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 s\119448s01.dat
1 16 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 1 s\114948s02.dat
And then you could move them to the \s\-folder.

I am working on 7664, but I got questions:
I tried to copy the bottom from 7344, or are narrower gaps (touching the stud) better? Should the gaps be the same as on the other curved parts?

Stud cavities tend to be bigger in the raw mesh and often need to be shrunk.
A stud is often r=6.25 ldu, but we have them at r=6 ldu

It is indeed smooth!

OK I will upload the new version then, I adjusted it slightly in the meantime so that the bottom was standard sizes no 0.25 ldu extra that I had previously since I was just matching the BI dimensions before and it shouldn't have been.
