6536 problem converting dat to obj/stl

6536 problem converting dat to obj/stl
#1
Hey, hello!

I am quite new into everything around LDRAW and I would appreciate guidance or anything here!

I am trying to convert dat to obj/stl for me to play around with the technic files.

I have tried already LDView, Stud.io, FreeCad, etc.

My idea and what I am trying is to create a script to convert all the files I want. It works.

BUT, there are a few parts like 6536 that no matter what I do won't give me the correct file. The best version I can have is the two parts separate, but the "solid" that join it together will never be in place.

I have seen quite a few topics and mentions problems like this but how to solve.

Does anyone know or have a proper way to download those STL/OBJ or whatever files (if technic specific better) Smile

Hello,

export .dat as .stl via LDView (File -> Export) typically works (I also tested for 6536).
There are a few converters for stl -> obj out there, or just use Blender.

Is this a problem related to general file conversion or specific to your script?
Where does the issue occur exactly?

I have also tested it and I think the problem occurs, when slicing the model for 3D printing.
This is how it looks before slicing:

With "Windows Repair Algorythm" applied:

The SidoPak by King Sidorak also includes that piece, where its only a mesh without primitives.
I could not include it as an stl, but the dat file can be converted with LDview without issues:

.dat   SID_6536.dat (Size: 103.6 KB / Downloads: 0)
