Rubber band messed up after saving, closing and opening

Rubber band messed up after saving, closing and opening
#1
Hi folks,

Sorry to have been of the radar a bit now that we really got things going discussing LPub3D, LDCad and all interesting stuff.
I've been a bit busy with other stuff then LEGO and LDraw... :-(

However, I got around again practicing LDCad an decided to try to model this cute little technic set:
http://brickset.com/sets/8203-1/Rover-Discovery
It has a rubber band rather typically shaped by the way it is in the model.
I tried to model this band like it would fit the model (not the way I want exactly yet).
See this screencapture video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wo_lp3S9NrA
It looks nice but when I save the file, close it and re-open it, the band is totally messed up.
Doing some work on it again to get it a bit like the way it was, saving, closing and re-opening it even messes up further.

How can I solve that?
Is this the same issue that I had with the small minifig chain assembly I posted before? Is the band simply to small to calculate?

Then: how do I create a rubber band that mimics this band the way it is in the model?

Thanks.

This seems to be a bug, I'll try to figure-out what's going wrong. I suspect it is the result of the 180 degree angle somehow though.

You can prevent this problem by using normal (bezier) points to make that shape which is much better at handling such shapes.

You can do that by changing the band circle points into bezier ones through their property dialog (press enter while a circle is selected).

Ok, thanks. I'll give that a try.
Here is the model (without rubber band though and not yet OMR compliant).

It's the 180 angle, I'm not sure why it goes ok during the initial placement. Might be a rounding thing though.

I'll try to improve it, a workaround is using bezier points like so:

I got something in the making that looks promising. Too small and not the right shape, but getting there.
Is there something like an import for an LDR file in an MPD in LDCad?

You can create a new template for it. To do that use:

  1. Close LDCad
  2. Go into "%appdata%\LDCad\templates\path"
  3. Copy rubberBandSquare.ldr
  4. Rename it to something appropriate
  5. Open LDCad and locate the band copy in the template bin.
  6. Edit the template directly to make it use bezier etc.
  7. (optional) edit its header / description.
  8. You can now use that template in any other model.

Hmm, I will sure try that one.
Here is the file that I am quite happy with now.
Sleep first now.... :-)
