Textures for Hologram Stickers? - Chris Böhnke - 2024-11-21

Hello everyone,

I had an idea and was wondering if this might be something worth looking into.
There was an older post regarding the issue, but it seems this was without solution:
https://forums.ldraw.org/thread-27623.html

Is it allowed to use a mixture of "normal" patterns and Texmaps to simulate the effect of certain holofoil stickers (like in 6991 or 6949)? Seems a bit unusual to me, but in theory it works.

Here is a quick test shot I made:

Probably need to get a better image of the foil and get the scaling more accurate to the real stickers. Perhaps this single image can even be used on all those "dotted" stickers.

However, there seem to be issues when exporting to other formats or Stud.io Confused

Hello Chris,
the contemporary use of patterns and textures in the same area has already been done in the official sticker 6148328q.

For the appearance in Stud.io or other viewer with no textures, the faces occupied by the texture have been colored with a Simplified/Neutral pattern.

Massimo

What you are talking about here is the texmap fallback geometry, which does not get rendered when texture mapping is enabled. The original question appears to be about having geometry that is present in a texture-mapped area (that is NOT marked as being fallback geometry). To the best of my knowledge, this is allowed.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Currently I basically did it by sub-filing the texture-mapped area.

Not exactly the same as the Monorail panel, but this is how I would do the texture:

.dat   169656a.dat (Size: 791 bytes / Downloads: 0)

I couldn't find any specific rules regarding texture images (especially size). Is there anything special I need to take care of when submitting texture images?

for the "holoram" effect: is it possible to link multiple pictures and change them regarding to the viewing angle?

RE: Textures for Hologram Stickers? - Chris Böhnke - 2024-11-27

Getting more different angles should definitely be possible.

But I am not sure how difficult it will be to get them in a somewhat realistic "sequence", if that is what you had in mind.

Or do you just intent something like https://library.ldraw.org/parts/15172 ?

This is not currently possible.
