General Grievous( need help) - Stan Isachenko - 2011-11-02

I am working on General Grievous minifig. And I have a problem.
1. How calculate angle of clips, to replace them with primitives.
2. What primitives will be better to use.

Here second part of parts.

Nobody knows?

Hi Stan,

Do you have a LDraw (ldr) file that you are using for this model? Perhaps you could post the ldr file so I get an idea of what you are trying to do.

It looks like there a few different versions of this minifigure.

The newest model appears in set 8095 - General Grevious Starfighter

...and an older version that appeared in set 7656-1

Which version are you trying to model?

Reuben

I try to model versin from set 8095. I put parts of the model in first 2 posts. But they are uncomplete. I have to raplca clips with primitives. But all clips are situated with different angle. So I need help to find angles of clips.

I don't think you can really replace whole clips with primitives (there's so many different designs...). IMHO the best thing you can do is to replace the inner cylinder and edge with cyli/edge primitives, align them visually with MLcad (See example attached). Then rebuild the clip tip around primitive.

I finally got around to having a go at creating this model myself. Attached is my LDR file. The angle of the arms is not perfect (it was the best I could do in MLCAD). Is there a better tool I can use that will "auto-snap" the clips.

I had to put him in a walking stance, as when standing straight his feet seem to slightly overlap.

Sure there's a (MUCH) better tool: LDCad! Unfortunately, as Grievous parts are still unofficial, I had to create their connectivity!
...and yes, there is a problem with the legs, as I mentionned -ouch- 10 years ago! https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?s=87569

Attached a running Grievous and connectivity files.

Ongoing work. Need some eyes.

All printed parts are now at the Part Tracker
https://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptscan.cgi?q=grievous&scope=header

The attached model is not correct, since there's no snap info on the files.
The model from Philo above, have the torso reversed, and I have changed the subfile structure.

I saw you named the part p01 and p02, shouldn't they be ps1 and ps2 ?

Possibly. There's not many other differently patterned parts confusing someone searching in the library. "Cyborg" and "Grievous" is rather genre specific. The patterned arms for this fig is not using p01 and p02 either. Maybe they all should be renumbered?
