Full Version: Request for part 4624296d formed on 3941

Hi there.

As my 4624296d sticker part is now certified on the tracker. I'd like to form it to fit on the 3941 cylinder brick.

Problem is that I struggled hours and hours without a satisfying result.

Can someone author this ?

Just to avoid falling in the same problems, what have you tried?
This is not easy since the sticker covers a large angle of the cylinder so planar projection doesn't work in one chunk. Deformation is an other pitfall...
It can't be too difficult?

Don't use any projection. I would do something likt this:

and then start cutting it apart.

btw, there's a small hole in the lower part of the B.

Yes, I used this method in the past, for the sticker of Matrix Robotics motor. Take the flat sticker, move it by the width of cylinder facet (don't forget to account for sticker thickness!!!), slice using symsplitter, rotate by facet angle and iterate... tedious, but works fine...
That's how I tried to do, but how do you manage the fact that there is a thickness and that the lower surface will be "smaller" than the upper one (don't know if you see what I mean)?
I tried to do everything in MLCad, which is not really convienient. What tool would you suggest ? Magnus : what software are you using in your screenshot (unless it's Ldview)?

Yes, the diameter of the backside surface must be smaller than the diameter of the frontside surface.

Think of it as a thick wall. Remove a triangular section on the backside, but leave the frontsurface untuched.
Then you're able to bend it.
Do you see were I have placed the rotation points? They're placed 20.25 ldu from the origin of the file.
I then use that point as a new rotation point to rotate the sticker into the next position.

I do most of my editing in LDDP and have LDView as the viewer.
Rotation is easier to do in MLCad, since that editor allows me to use the first selected part as the rotation point.

Yes, it looks really good. I'll cert it.

But it is now possible to continue with this pattern. The cutting process has created a lot of unwanted vertices.
You could create a template in LPC, and import the surface from your file,
and remove all the unwanted vertices,in triangles and quads of the same colour.

Another way is to simply flatten this file, import it into LPC, remove the vertices, and then use SlicerPro to project it on a 20.25 cylinder.
I would prefer to wait for a 3 dimensions friendly part editor...

I'm actually waiting a lot for Nils' one. Looks very nice.

I'm actually using LdForge but I'm not sure it will suit for this.
