I hope this helps:

Parts authors pick the correct colours for prints/stickers/dual-moulded parts

Model builders avoiding discontinued (hard to find) colours more easily

Some notes:

This is mostly speculative, not official. However most of it should be correct

"Pearlescent Metallic" refers to un-painted plastic with additives giving them a pearly-metallic look (do not use for prints!)

"Metallic Ink/Lacq" refers to a shiny paint coating on parts (but still more matte than chrome/vacuum-metallizing) or the ink used on prints/stickers. Both are considered the same by both Lego and LDraw

Some chrome elements (like the LotR One Ring) might still be active, but are usually no longer listed as active. Chrome is easily identified anyways, so I excluded those for now

"Glitter" is very transparent with big glittery flakes molded into the plastic; "Opalescent" is similar to Glitter, but the flakes are much smaller and have a much higher density, causing the base part to be more of a milky translucent rather than fully transparent. Rendering of these two effects varies heavily depending on program

I'm not that sure on status for the glitter/opal colours, but they seem to have been active within the last 3 years and felt it better to be inclusive here

Hello everyone,

I am beginning to get afraid people are getting way too zealous when it comes to applying the Stickerback Standard to existing files.

The Standard explicitly mentions older stickers being different:
"The backing boxes for older, sharp cornered stickers should be modeled with an appropriately scaled box5-12."

Please do at least check the individual sticker's year of release before making any changes to existing parts.

It's hard to say when the change actually happened, but it was somewhere in the mid to late 2000s. If the sticker was released prior to 2004, the official one might not need a fix at all.

Things were handled way different prior to 2004, so applying modern rules there will make the sticker look wrong.

As a side note older stickers were noticably covering more area then the modern ones, so even if a sticker from 1997 happens to have rounded corners, the offset is highly likely smaller than 2 LDU.

Various Speed Champions sets include a Formula 1 helmet (7071.dat).
Unfortunately, I can only assign a color to the helmet itself, but not to the visor.
I haven't been able to find a solution on the forum.
Is there one?

Hello!

I'm very new and definitely not versed in this community, please disregard my ignorance and naivity as a noob.

A story: I build the 6398 Police HQ in Studio for nostalgia; upon rendering it the blue webbed dish looked a tiny bit angular, lacking angular resolution. I dig deep, how parts are made, how this LDraw works, tried LD Part Editor, used spreadsheets and ultimately "updated" the 4285s01.dat sub-part. I tried my best to keep CCW orientation. There are minor coplanarity issues with it (can't spot it on renders) and I can't comprehend command line 5, so I did not touch those.

If someone has the time to take look at it, have the knowledge and will to correct it (if needed) would be nice, especially if this could become an official part later on.

I am (finally) working on supporting the aring primitive in LDView's primitive substitution, and I have run into what I feel is a problem. The problem is that I believe that the aring can be used in two different ways:

To fill in the gap between a standard-resolution curved primitive and a 48-resolution curved primitive

To fill in the gap between 16-sided geometric curve and a 48-resolution curved primitive

I know that it is being used in situations that match option 1 above. I don't know if it is being used for option 2 or not. One (relatively minor) problem is that option 1 is incompatible with how LDView does primitive substitution when the curve quality is set to certain settings. I should be able to fix this. But there is no way for me to generate the primitive in a way that is compatible with both option 1 and option 2.

For option 1, the resolution of the inner part needs to track my primitive substitution curve quality, and the outer part needs to track the 48-resolution version of the same thing. When the quality is set to the default value, this would be 16 and 48. For the next notch on LDView's quality slider, the 16 becomes 24. Right now, the 48-resolution version remains 48 at that setting. (That would probably change. The next notch uses 32, and since 32 doesn't evenly divide into 48, that would have to change. Same for the next notch, which is 40. An easy solution is to use 64 and 80 for the 48-resolution version of those two notches.)

But if this primitive is used next to hard-coded 16-sided geometry, then the inner resolution would need to remain 16, no matter what the curve quality is set to. The current description for the aring primitive does specify that it interfaces between high-resolution primitives and normal-resolution primitives. So does this mean that interfacing with 16-segment geometry is not allowed? If so, I can make it work (although it will cause my primitive substitution to render more geometry for 48 curves when the curve quality is set to use 32 or 40 segment curves).

If it is used next to 16-segment geometry, then I feel that that needs to be forbidden, and a new primitive needs to be introduced to fill that (different) role.

Side note: for POV export, the first version of this primitive is no geometry at all. The second version is a chord.

the feet are very jagged on the raw mesh and i cant be bothered to rework (the hair is an another obstacle)
