It's an error in your .mpd file - the second file should start with "0 FILE s\testparts.dat" not "0 FILE testparts.dat". Change that line and LDView and MLCad open it correctly.
Don't forget that parsers will look at the filename, not the 'Name:' meta-command, when trying to resolve a sub-file reference.
This is basically a bug in MLCad, although to be fair it wasn't designed with this in mind.
