The lastest download has MLCAD, but in the distribution, LDCad is a beta.  The Lego SW book focuses on MLCAD. So that is what I went with. I am delighted there are improved alternatives. I will check out LDCad. Is there a difference in the formats?

No, the file format is fully compatible between these tools, so you can interchange freely between these tools (and others!). Eg. the modifications made on your file were done with LDCad...

How could you tell what tool I used?

Because it contains special metacommands (0 ROTATION CONFIG 0 0) MLCad specific...
