LDCad Part Snapping No Longer Working - CJ H. - 2025-02-25 Something odd happened to my installation of LDCad 1.7 yesterday. When I started the application, it loaded as if it was a new install: defaulting to the blue background, asking where my LDraw library lives, etc. My favorited parts and hotkey config remained, but my favorited colors did not. I was able to fix all of that, but one thing remains: enabling part snapping has no effect. I tried downloading and replacing the latest shadow file ("C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming\LDCad\shadow\offLib\offLibShadow.csl"). I've tried pointing LDCad's shadow library settings at the ".../Shadow" and .../Shadow/offLib" folders (restarting afterward), but with no effect. What else can I try? Or should I just do a full reinstall of LDCad? If reinstall, are there any good threads describing how to make sure favorites and hotkeys survive the reinstall? For snapping to work check the following: 1 Make sure both your official and unofficial libraries' shadows are set to the correct .csl. 2 Make sure the use of shadows is enabled in the prefs/ldraw menu 3 Make sure snapping is enabled in the current editing view, indicated by a green PS in the compass. If with this all it still doesn't work, check the most recent log file to see if there are any warnings or errors of interest. That helped me sort it out, though I should have seen the issue before. I was trying to point to the _folders_ for the CSL, but not using the "browse archive" button to point to the CSL itself. Looking through the log made it clear that it wasn't finding the CSL, which made me look more carefully at the ldraw library prefs dialog. I still don't know why main.cfg was deleted/corrupted, but I've now added .../roaming/ldcad to my backup list Thanks again for the help. RE: LDCad Part Snapping No Longer Working - N. W. I think the other issue threw me off. :-) |
