RE: Parts Request: Train Buffer Beam - Gerald Lasser - 2020-01-26

Hello,

First of all, welcome to the forum and as a note, we do appreciate a greeting Wink

I have completed the parts you asked, just waiting for a number for the screw that hold the magnet in place, for the complete part.

Gerald

No worries Smile

But practically those are more or less your parts, they are just an adaptation of 64424.

The 91968 though, is again available in Studio as "unofficial". It is again a raw import from digital-bricks, with a different orientation...

Hopefully some day a brave soul will write a proper conversion tool with a mapping file similar to LDraw.xml. Of course it would be better if that was done within Studio...

RE: Parts Request: Train Buffer Beam - Gerald Lasser - 2020-01-28

More on the Train Buffers and Magnets... seems it escalated a bit  Smile

We do have part 2920, 'Train Coupling Type 2' which has no shortcuts including the magnet as compared to 4023, 'Train Coupling Type 1', which has two shortcuts (c01 and c02)

Part 2920, however, has some quirks in its geometry. e.g. the magnet is currently loose in its position and might "slip" out. SO I took my calipers out to change it. While doing so I noticed that the pin of the magnet should be of a slightly larger diameter, but that would break some dependencies or existing shortcuts, so I left it as it is.

Nevertheless, I changed 2920, as pictured below, which has currently no shortcuts and the existing favorable magnet position should not be impacted too much.

We should add at least two shortcuts, c01 and c02 for Pulling and Idle Position. Question is do we want to have c03 as well, that would be the magnet pushed to the end of the hole?

I would then request Chris to resubmit 2920 and upload the shortcuts...

Hello Gerald
I do not know much English. I tried to make the request as concise and clear as possible. I did not use a translator from Google and write greetings.

About the screws do not really understand. Do you need a photo of an automatic coupler mount?

За детали и оперативность огромное спасибо!

Hello,

No worries, the request was clear, it is just more of an incentive with a few more words.

The screw issue is just an "internal" one, I needed a part number to be able to upload it.

The parts are basically ready and available on the parts tracker.

RE: Parts Request: Train Buffer Beam - Batareikin - 2020-01-31

Hi Gerald.

Assemblies  91968c01 and 91994 are reversed.

91968c01 must be  "Train Buffer Beam with Open Buffer Bottom with Sealed Magnet (Type 2) (Complete)" and include  91994 (and 64417c01).
91994  must be  "Train Buffer Beam with Open Buffer Bottom for Sealed Magnet with Screw (Type 2)" (and include 91968 and u9389).

A similar error with assemblies 29085c01 and 29084. They are reversed.

29085c01 must be  "Train Buffer Beam with Open Buffer Bottom with Sealed Magnet (Type 3) (Complete)" and include  29084 (and 64417c01).
29084  must be  "Train Buffer Beam with Open Buffer Bottom for Sealed Magnet with Screw (Type 3)" (and include 29085 and u9389).

There are also inconsistencies in the official assemblies 64422 and 64424c01.

64424c01 must be "Train Buffer Beam with Open Buffer Bottom and Long Cylinder with Sealed Magnet (Type 1) (Complete)" and include  64422 (and 64417c01).
64422 must be "Train Buffer Beam with Open Buffer Bottom and Long Cylinder for Sealed Magnet with Screw (Type 1) and include 64424 and 64420.

RE: Parts Request: Train Buffer Beam - Magnus Forsberg - 2020-02-01

How do you come to that conclusion?
I think the current structure is correct, based on facts from brickset and ldd.

We should not adopt the numbering on Bricklink.

Hi, Thansk for raising the concern, but as Magnus wrote, we do not necessary follow the numbering of Bricklink. Some of the numbers are unfortunately not anymore available on Brickset, but the latest Buffer is. This Buffer Assembly is known as 29084. That's what we use it. Also Bricklink uses 91994 for the Type 2 Assembly as an alternate.

So what is really to be done is
 • adapt the Type 1 assembly to the proper structure (Magnet Assembly + Screw and Beam Assembly)
 • adapt the naming for Type 1
Here's some breakdown of the Train Buffer Structure:

(F) = Fix to existing Part
(o) = Official Part
(N) = New Part

RE: Parts Request: Train Buffer Beam - Magnus Forsberg - 2020-02-02

Very nice summary. Big Grin

RE: Parts Request: Train Buffer Beam - Batareikin - 2020-02-15

Maybe adapt the naming for Type 1 to
"Train Buffer Beam with Open Buffer Bottom and Long Cylinder with Sealed Magnet (Type 1) (Complete)"

Yes, I still need to resubmit them...

I resubmitted the parts with an updated description.

How much play is there in real life? Is many different positions even possible?

No. If someone want to have that level of detail they could inline these files.
