2x2 Slope 45 from UCS Snowspeeder/Sandcrawler - N. W. Perry - 2020-01-13

Request part 3039pb108 (BL) / 3039pr0021 (Rebrickable), Slope 45 2 x 2 with Controls, Buttons, and Navigation Display Pattern. Only used in two sets but since they're both Star Wars UCS models I thought that might kick up its importance a bit.  Wink

If anyone can find or make a good scan or photo, I can probably put together an SVG of the pattern without too much trouble. It looks to be mostly easy geometric shapes!

That seems to be a rare one, here's a semi-good picture.... https://tshop.r10s.jp/brickers/cabinet/parts/3000-3067/3039pb108-026.jpg?fitin=330:330

May be some YT Reviews...

There's a Eurobricks review (and associated Flickr page) that has some good photos—just a little oblique, not head-on scans. Can probably get somewhere using these…and it looks like I'll have to work on more stickers, as well…

This image from Brickset is pretty good.

I think this round goes to Magnus! Big Grin  That's the best one!

That'll definitely help, as well as with the two stickers on either side!

EDIT: Going well so far…

OK, the pattern vector is finished and I believe I have constructed the part correctly. The requisite files are attached, and I welcome your feedback!

And now submitted to Parts Tracker; my first part submission, hooray! :-)

Awesome. Always great to have a new author.

Giving this a bump, as I'd like to seek advice on how to move this through the pipeline.

EDIT: Never mind; see below.  Smile

I have submitted a new version, with the texmapped pattern replaced by standard LDraw geometry.

Your continued feedback (and reviews) are kindly appreciated.  Smile

I really think TEXMAP should only be used if using standard geometry is impractical. Example would be the stickers I have on the PT.

Which, of course, was always the case for me, as the tools available for building standard patterns don't run natively on my computer. I've been able to get more and more of them semi-working, but each has its own special configuration challenges, so it's a slow curve.

With img4dat now running smoothly, standard geometry has become much less impractical, hence this new version.  Smile

Imho this is not the only consideration. Texmapped versions do have an edge on 3D patterned (eg. minifig heads) as it allows a much smoother rendering (even though standard geometry method looks crisper).

And is better supported.

For what it's worth, I'm still of course keeping both versions in my files, in the event that texmap gains broader support and/or favorability. Meanwhile, I'm happy to submit whichever version has a better chance of being released.

In light of this thread, was building the snowspeeder last days and created attached pattern to use as fallback pattern. Totally fine to use this .

Thanks—although if you think there are ways mine could be improved, I'd prefer to try and make the adjustments myself so that they can hopefully become official! :-)
