My First Part author 3039pb007 Slope Brick 45 2 x 2 with "3" Number Pattern - Victor Di Rienzo - 2019-05-04

Guys this is my first part that im making 3039pb007.dat Slope Brick 45  2 x  2 with "3" Number Pattern

This is the brick i want to make.

i have allready make the file, but i want to know if something is missing or its make in a wrong way so i can update it before i upload to part tracker.

im using  Ld Pattern Creator

this is how it looks on ldcad.

As you can see i did use triangles around the number 3 that i have generated. is this done this way or i should create a primitive for the background and then in an upper layer put the 3?

if i should use a square primitive for the background and then put the number 3 in a "different layer" please let me know how to do this.

im attaching the dat file and the ldpatternCreator if you want to check.

RE: My First Part author 3039pb007 Slope Brick 45 2 x 2 with "3" Number Pattern - Franklin W. Cain - 2019-05-04

The first file (the DAT file) is the way to go.  However:

1) Please check with Chris Dee for a proper pattern number, for the filename.

2) If there are any other slope bricks of this type with a printed "3", please consider putting the pattern code into a sub-file, so you can re-use the code for the other "3" patterns.

3) A more proper Title would be:

Quote:Slope Brick 45  2 x  2 with White "3" Pattern

(The Title should mention what color the "3" is printed in.)

Again, looks good!  Get these points taken care of, and you should be ready to upload your file to the Parts Tracker.  ;-)

The pattern looks good but I'd say that there is way too much detail. Consider that the studs on the slope are just made of 16 faces to cover 360 degrees. Try eliminating every second vertex and I bet it looks still good. Compare for example http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/004490d.dat

I personally don’t think there is too much details, this is my opinion and I have already been told that my patterns where too much detailed but I definitely think 16 divisions per 360° is way too low.

But I would say that the shape of the 3 look unregular especially on the bottom side of it, it could be improve to make the shape look more round. But for a first part, well done.

2 Generated the file loading the subfile.

i have added the number 3 only on a sub file, so the code can be reused in other brick.

removing the backround i made it more light.

but i will keep the quality.

i have attached both file the brick and the pattern. Regarding the pattern i have removed all the triangles that made the background so now its lighter. also made some little esthetic modifications to the 3 numbers.

i think its not bad at all.

Thank you Willi and Franklin.

Damien i will try to make it better before uploading it to ldraw part tracker

You should subpart the file only if other can reuse the pattern, if you are not aware of one, no need to subpart it.

I would name the file 3039p13 and the subfile 3039p13s01 (but only if the subfile is needed).

I have made some little changes o the number it looks more natural, keep in mind that the font its not symmetrical.

My 2 cents:
There is such thing as too detailed but we’re not there yet.

RE: My First Part author 3039pb007 Slope Brick 45 2 x 2 with "3" Number Pattern - Magnus Forsberg - 2019-05-05

No, this is not right.

Since this is a printed pattern the entire background should be included. In level with the brick surface.

A subfile of the pattern is only needed if the same print is printed on another brick.
Show me that brick, and I'll support a subfile.

A subfile to a pattern should have a filename that is related to the (first) main part.
In this case, the subfile might be called 3039p13s01, not 3039s03.

i have taken notes of all the recommendations. Also made more cosmetic updates to the pattern.

i have sent the email to admin to be able to publish the part. also read the documentation.

As this brick with pattern its only used on 3 kits probably the 3 number will not appear in any other brick. so i have placed all in one file with the new naming.

btw if its needed the "3" pattern its available on this forum.

i have attached the file
