DUPLO Early Simple Machines missing parts - Krzysztof Skibicki - 2016-10-28

Hello everybody!

I'm AFOL plus I'm teaching kids robotics using best tool ever made: Lego Education sets, from DUPLO Early Simple Machines, thru WeDO 1.0, 2.0 and last, but not least, Mindstorms.

I'm creating some instructions on my own - and today I need to make instructions for smallest kids: 3yrs old, who can't get on with instructions made by LEGO, where they combined few elements together and make pictures too complicated.

So, MLCad is my answer, but, it is missing technical DUPLO parts.

DUPLO Early Simple Machines set: https://education.lego.com/en-us/products/early-simple-machines-iii-set/9656

Missing parts:

plus a transparent gear box that has no own picture, but is presented on group elements:

I know I'm asking for a big favour. As a reward, I can promise each and every instruction I make using them I will put on public.

If anyone needs specific pictures, measurement etc, I own these sets...

Best regards
Krzysztof

I must say this is an interesting project, but I have none of these parts, so I have no idea of "common" dimensions, how they fit together, etc... I don't know if dimensions/photos alone would be enough.
Are the axles the same as normal Technic axles? Are the pinholes compatible with Technic pins?

I don't have the parts either, but I've seen them at LEGOLAND. To the best of my knowledge, the axles are the same as Technic axles, but twice as thick. The pinholes would be twice as big, also (obviously, to fit the axles).

Exactly.... They are just thicker...
I can provide whatever technical detail you need...
Just ask me...
It would be so nice, even if you don't make them 100% perfect...

RE: DUPLO Early Simple Machines missing parts - Philippe Hurbain - 2016-10-29

Let's start simple with axles and beams (http://brickset.com/parts/design-6524). If you have a flat bed scanner, a scan of the parts would be the best. Otherwise, a photo seen from top.
For the axles, I need accurate measurement of axle diameter and length, a photo of the tip of axle would help too, as well as a scan or photo of the center of a gear where axle fit.

For the beams, measurement of thickness/width/length, + scan or photo...

Wow!
Sure, I have flat bed scanner. I will do my best with it...
Just give me a day or two, I have parts in my office, scanner at home Wink
I'll get back here...

Quote:Sure, I have flat bed scanner.
Just a precision: scanners that use a bar of leds and sensors (eg. Canon) have a very low depth of field and don't work well for scanning 3D parts. Scanners with an internal optic lens (eg. Epson) work best.

It is Cannon ;( 4200. Let us see on Monday how it works...

From the spec (CCFL + CCD), should be OK!

Hey!
Took me more time that I wanted, but...

My scanner is super good for "3D" scans Wink

Now I owe you some measurements...
Hope to deliver quicker then above Wink

Excellent indeed!

Quote:Now I owe you some measurements...
Yes please... most things can be derived from scans, except for depth values.
- depth of recessed entry of axle holes in beams and bricks? Does a Duplo stud fit there?
- Bricks are made from two halves. Are the side holes molded on lower or upper half? Or one half on each part? (don't think so, I would see a line)

...probably more questions

I will provide you very specific measurements, just hold on, please Wink

I will provide you any information you request...

1. no, not to bricks. Duplo stud does not fit there. They fit only into yellow beams entry of axle holes.
2. only bricks with holes are made of two halves.
it is difficult to answer how they are molded. You don't see any edge inside holes... I think they are tubes as part of one of the side...

RE: DUPLO Early Simple Machines missing parts - Philippe Hurbain - 2016-12-14

OK, so... let's start with really simple ones!

RE: DUPLO Early Simple Machines missing parts - Philippe Hurbain - 2016-12-15

Could you also make a bunch of close up photos of the gear section of gear 8 with axle from different directions, I have trouble figuring out details...

RE: DUPLO Early Simple Machines missing parts - Philippe Hurbain - 2016-12-16

About the crank handle... the base of the axle looks like it has some sort of twist lock pattern. Any idea of what might fit there?

Could you PM me your gmail e-mail. I would share with you files, where I make measurements...
If possible, of course...

Long overdue, but... the plastic sheets are now available on Parts Tracker!

RE: DUPLO Early Simple Machines missing parts - yongxu wang - 2017-06-05

What parts of DUPLO are there now?

Thanks. But when I downloaded some, I found that some parts did not show up, how to solve this problem.
