LDraw Facebook Group - Bill Ward - 2016-01-21

For those who use Facebook, I've created a Group there for discussing LDraw related topics. Please join if you would like to participate.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1711364279149819/

The intent is not to compete with these forums, but a lot of people may not know about the forums, or may be more active on Facebook, so it provides another venue to talk about LDraw.

Bill.

Is that visible only with a FB account?

Re: LDraw Facebook Group - Bill Ward - 2016-01-21

Yes

Re: LDraw Facebook Group - Willy Tschager - 2016-01-21

This initative is in contrast with:

http://www.ldraw.org/article/281.html#3_01_procedure_for_representation_of_the_organization_in_policy_matters

We will discuss this in the SteerCo as LDraw.org already has a page on FB https://www.facebook.com/ldraworg.

It does not seems so. I don't have a FB account and this is what I see when I click the link:

Cheers.

How about a Discord channel? Do you guys see any use for it?

No. Our social media presence is dismal at best. Mostly due to the fact that we're all volunteers with real life obligations that limit our time working on the project. If I have to choose between working on the website or boosting our social media standing, I'm choosing the former every time.

How about you being a bot? Or a spammer? or both?

I'll give people the benefit of the doubt until they prove themselves to be otherwise...

I have no regard for people popping into a forum for the first time with no hello or bye, bye.

I hope necroposting isn't a sin here, but I think a discord server could be a reasonably useful thing to have — not from the media presence pov, but rather from internal communication. From personal experience it have been quite neat for projects and stuff.
Maybe a server could be set up to see if it works out?
I will understand if answer is no, people might be used to forum much more to the point of moving away possibly being a troubling experience of its own

I've actually been considering it but haven't had the time to fully explore the idea. It'll probably happen though.

I have some experience running Discord Servers for AFOL groups. I can offer help should you need or want it.
