British vs. American English - Michael Heidemann - 2014-01-05 There is just an actual discussion on the part: http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptdetail.cgi?f=parts/47326c.dat that I like to have here for future reference. Some years ago we where talking about british vs. american english for part description. If I remember correctly we decided to use the british english to honor James Jessiman as an Australian guy. Therefore the meta command is f.e. !COLOUR and not !COLOR. Now I am aware that the decription of the colours in the LDConfig.ldr is not made this way. There is often gray instead grey used. If I am right and this is our current policy the LDConfig.ldr should immediately be updated. Also in our document for part authoring this detail should be mentioned. Re: British vs. American English - Michael Heidemann - 2014-01-05 I just found the result of that time: http://www.ldraw.org/article/559.html LDraw.org Standards: Localisation Guideline Wrote:If there is also no translation in the de the native language of LDraw.org is used (Australian English). Re: British vs. American English - Michael Heidemann - 2014-01-05 The following files with gray instead of grey are in our official library and should be updated IMHO: Selection from LDFind Show only part type qualifier: All Hide unofficial parts........: False Hide official parts..........: False Hide ~parts..................: False Hide _parts..................: False Hide =parts..................: False Hide parts...................: False Hide subparts................: False Hide primitives..............: False gives the following (28) results: _Ball 52mm Diameter Dark Gray C:\ldraw\parts\23065.dat _Boat Bow 16 x 12 x 5 & 1/3 Red/Dark Gray C:\ldraw\parts\4100338.dat _Technic Universal Joint (Complete Assembly Shortcut) Stone Gray C:\ldraw\parts\4240416.dat ~Minifig Torso with Castle Female Armor Light Gray Area C:\ldraw\parts\s\973p4ga.dat ~Minifig Torso with Gray and Gold Batman Pattern - Half C:\ldraw\parts\s\973pb0a.dat ~Minifig Torso with Stormtrooper Pattern - Light gray C:\ldraw\parts\s\973pska.dat ~Minifig Torso with Stormtrooper Pattern - Medium gray C:\ldraw\parts\s\973pskb.dat ~Minifig Torso with SW Camouflage Smock - Light Gray C:\ldraw\parts\s\973psm1.dat ~Tile 2 x 2 with SW Rebel Mechanical Pattern - Darker Gray Areas C:\ldraw\parts\s\3068b101.dat Animal Dinosaur Body Triceratops (Complete) w/ Light Gray Legs C:\ldraw\parts\30461c01.dat Animal Dinosaur Stegosaurus (Complete) with Light Gray Legs C:\ldraw\parts\76443c01.dat Boat Hull Floating 51 x 12 with Dark Bluish Gray Top C:\ldraw\parts\54779c02.dat Boat Hull Floating 51 x 12 with Light Bluish Gray Top C:\ldraw\parts\54779c01.dat Figure Fabuland Monkey Head 2 with Neck and Captain's Cap Gray C:\ldraw\parts\u595p02c02.dat Minifig Dagger with Pearl Light Gray Blade C:\ldraw\parts\88288p01.dat Minifig Head with LOTR Thick Gray Eyebrows and Smile Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\3626cpm1.dat Minifig Shield Triangular with Red and Gray Pattern, Blue Frame C:\ldraw\parts\3846p47.dat Minifig Torso Female with LtPurple Scarf and Gray Belt Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\973p7y.dat Minifig Torso with Leather Jacket and Light Gray Shirt Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\973pa9.dat Minifig Torso with Red & Gray Shirt, Pot Belly, Jacket Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\973paf.dat Motor Pull Back 4 x 9 x 2.333 Type 2 with Dark Gray Base C:\ldraw\parts\u9062c02.dat Panel 2 x 5 x 6 Wall with Dark Gray Scattered Stones Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\4444p02.dat Panel 2 x 5 x 6 Wall with Dark Gray Stones Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\4444p01.dat Panel 2 x 5 x 6 Wall with Light Gray Scattered Stones Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\4444p05.dat Panel 2 x 5 x 6 Wall with Light Gray Window Stones Pattern C:\ldraw\parts\4444p04.dat Plate 1 x 2 with Tooth and Flexible LightBluishGrey Tip C:\ldraw\parts\61406p02.dat Slope Brick 45 2 x 3 x 1 & 1/3 Double with Light Gray Hook C:\ldraw\parts\3135c02.dat Vehicle Base 10 x 4 with Two Wheels Light Gray C:\ldraw\parts\4613c01.dat List generated on 2014-01-05 by LDFind Version 1.3.5.0. Re: British vs. American English - Tim Gould - 2014-01-05 Technically we use Australian English. Which is slightly different to British English. e.g. we use jail not gaol Tim Re: British vs. American English - Chris Dee - 2014-01-05 Yes, Australian English is the LDraw dialect. We rarely use gaol in contemporary British English. Jail is more commonly used. Re: British vs. American English - Tim Gould - 2014-01-05 While it's good to see a move to more sensible spelling in the UK, that does make finding examples of difference harder ![]() What about program vs programme? We almost never use the French spelling in Australia any more. Tim |
