Flat Posting Style

Flat Posting Style
#1
Flat posting style seem to be the predominate forum style this days. While I prefer threaded view it is rapidly falling out of favor with new users. Being very aware of trying not to impose my biases on the newer crown I'd like to ask the user if we should do away with hybrid m-threaded view and go flat posting only.

Note: The threaded view option won't go away but it is slated to be removed with the new version of MyBB (whenever that happens).

Hybrid Threading (current default, replaces flat):

Threaded (user selectable, not default)

Flat (no indent like hybrid, new posts always at the end, paginated)

I can not answer this, simply because I don't understand the difference. Could you make some pictures showing it?

I updated the original post with more info.

I definitely prefer hybrid. If we switch to flat, people need to do a better job of quoting whatever message they are replying to. People that are used to flat style probably already do this, but people used to the threaded style probably don't currently.

Threaded view works well in a news or email reader, where you can see and switch posts nearly instantly. But for HTML forums I prefer flat view.

I prefer flat view, like 99% of todays forums.

As long as you can quote, threaded is not really needed, especially because it is not possible for a user to re-indent his post if it is wrongly placed, which occurs quite often here.

As an example Eurobricks is flat and is quite simple to read.

I prefer hybrid view as well. :-)

Drawback to hybrid:
It's easy to break threading and not trivial to fix

hybrid.

(my problem with this forum is the visual clutter, not the threading mode:
