Does the attached build "work" in real life? I tried and it seemed okay, but I don't want to do anything that might stress and bend or break parts. Thanks.

Yes, kind of. But it's an Illegal connection. (Which means it's not supposed to connect that way, but can anyways just as long the part doesn't bend or break)

If the part was rubber, it could work properly, but it's not. I would not recommend connecting it the way you did.
